It’s a big honour for the boy who takes it. Afterwards, the priest goes from house to house holding a cross and a basil branch that he put into holy water and sprinkle to bless the home.

The Greek Orthodox Church celebrates the Annunciation by archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she should become the mother of Jesus Christ the Son of God. Is also the nameday for Vangelis (Evangelos) and Vangelio (Evangelia or Eva).

The celebration takes place in Tholaria in the north part of Amorgos, it's the name day of the church. The village is full of people who eat and dance to

The celebration takes place in Tholaria in the north part of Amorgos, it’s the name day of the church. The village is full of people who eat and dance to traditional music.
On the eve of the feast, the Great Vesper and holy prayer are held. On the following day, a celebratory Divine Mass is held, followed by the procession of the miraculous holy icon and relics of Agιοi Anargyroi. The traditional Amorgian “patatato” and “xydato” are offered. While on fasting days (Wednesday or Friday), they serve fasting food. The evening of 1st of July the traditional feast is held.

The celebration of the church Agia Paraskevi, it’s located in the southern part of Amorgos in Kato Meria. It’s the biggest festival in the Cyclades and attracts visitors from all over the world. The preparations begin ten days before the celebration. And on the 25th, in the evening, the famous “patatato” is prepared for the next day. On the 26th the feast is on, with food, local music and dance.
Agia Paraskevi in numbers: 4000 people, 100 volunteers & 150 goats.
